Winston S. Churchill – Normandy 12th of June 1944

I am speaking to you today from the beaches of Normandy, standing in front of an army of heroes. In the early hours of the morning a vast amount of our brave troops arrived on the beaches of Normandy. We are now here, in France, ready to march forward and to fight and for France to win back their country. Our country offers you great thanks. You are all heroes and you will return home as heroes. You, the courageous men, who are so close to us all, have fought hard and we have made much progress in ending the world war. We shall prove ourselves as a great country, a powerful country and a successful country. We will forever be remembered for freeing Europe from the Germans. I have full confidence that the British Empire can defeat Nazi Germany. We must not give up. We must continue to work together and to fight for what is ours and by doing this, I know we will succeed.
